This book is definitely for adult readers. The leading lady Kate has had her childhood destroyed by not only her principal but also her parents inability to deal with the situation. Her mother completely abandons the family. Her father loses himself and his life in alcohol leaving Kate and her younger sister Annie to pick up the pieces and move on. Luckily for them they have Uncle Lenny to help them through.

They hit it off waiting for Jimmy ( the creepy barista) to make their coffees. Over the next few months they slowly fall in love. They meet each others friends and family and all seems to be moving in the direction of a future together.
