This book was exceptionally difficult to read. The story is about Marina who needs to find the man her daughter must not marry. All well and good. Sounds intriguing however it does not fulfill that promise. There are memorable characters who all get bogged down in the tedious discussion of day to day drivel. If you can make it through about 64% (counted by my Kindle) you will find the core of this story. Surprisingly told in concise clear writing that was delightful to read. For a moment I had to ask myself if it written by the same person. This only lasts for about 3 chapters and then it is tragically lost again. I am glad to put this book behind me.

So, um, how do the Black Butterflies figure into it?
When Marina was a young woman she spent many hours staring out the window of her aunts apartment watching black butterflies in the bushes. She embroiders them on many handkerchiefs that end up in the hands of the man her daughter must not marry.
